MA GLASS: EDINBURGH CRYSTAL MASTERS SCHOLARSHIP 2000-01
| ||
| The work created during my MA was the result of a collaborative programme between the University of Wolverhampton and Edinburgh Crystal, and culminated in a range of pieces which addressed both the company's requirements for new and innovative crystal products, and my personal creative objectives and artistic development. | ||
| The inspiration for my work comes from various sources, ranging from the textural qualities of minerals and rock surfaces, to the subtle lines or silhouettes of the female form. The resulting pieces, although essentially functional, often possess a visual language informed by the irregularity and diversity of the natural world. The work is not minimalist, nor highly decorative: I try to bring visual impact into my work through the use of understated yet striking shapes and textures. | ||
| Ideas evolve through the execution of trial pieces using various manufacturing techniques. The work is intended to capture the receptivity, character and sensitivity of hand-craftsmanship whilst investigating the technologies of industrial production processes. The coexistence of these two cultures within design is something which interests me. | ||
