Having specialised in Fashion and moving on into Textiles,I now find myself involved in a new material: Glass. I am dealing with the problems involved in combining materials with very different properties.I am interested in applying textile techniques to glass; draping, hanging, joining and reducing it into units which can be reassembled. I am also using textile elements such as repetition, series and interlocking shapes. The Fashion world has given me access to specialist machinery, such as the overlocker, buttonholer and computerised embroidery machine, which have allowed me to vary joining / embellishment techniques. My work is usually material-led and I aim to use combinations, such as paper, plastic, glass, fabric and found objects, in a non-precious way. |
